The National Pension Scheme that was formerly in operation and the present Social Security Scheme, apart from creating a relatively short term and temporal benefit to the aged (retired persons), fails to adequately and sustainably provide for the aged to face the challenges of the real world after retirement.
The aged are left to their fate after serving their companies in various categories without any real provision for the post retirement period. The aged therefore lack self-sustaining abilities.
The elderly who are in the age bracket of 60+ to 70+ are left at home to fend for themselves. This creates a helplessness situation for the elderly. In addition the local hospital is located in Winneba where majority of elderly persons are unable to access medical treatment due to poverty. The situation compels many of them to self-medicate which often leads to serious health complication (Kasoa health service survey).
The Association in its attempt, to extend it services far and wide faces some difficulties in the form of finances and logistics. This has greatly hampered the Association's efforts to meet the increasing demand for services needed by the elderly. The above has necessitated this request for assistance from your organization.
